Experienced users can perform their queries quickly and efficiently using the simple search. The advanced search function can help less experienced users to save time and deliver more effective results. The advanced search offers you options to obtain more precise and accurate results.

The following table provides examples of search methods found in the advanced search function.

Search terms Procedure
ALL of these words Pages are only displayed if they contain every one of the search terms entered.
This EXACT phrase/group of words The search engine only looks for phrases. Pages are only displayed if they contain the exact phrase entered in the order it is entered.
ONE of these words Pages are only displayed if they contain at least one of the search terms entered.
NONE of these words Pages are only displayed if they do not contain any of the search terms entered.
Combinations The advanced search allows the search methods described to be combined.

The free entry field in the quick search function also allows you to specify more complex searches.
The following table describes various commands. The left column lists which commands you can use. The right column gives a short description of the search procedure.

Operator Procedure
OR The system finds pages which contain at least one of the terms or phrases entered. "digital OR road OR maps" finds all pages which contain either the word "digital", "road" or "maps". The pages displayed can contain all terms.
- Excludes pages that contain the word or phrase specified.
For example, the term "financial -services" displays all pages that contain the word "financial" but not "services".
+ The search ignores common words and individual letters and numbers (stop words). Please add the "+" sign to include stop words in your search.
