Quick search.

You can use the quick search to find pages that include the term you are looking for. You can search for single words, several words or entire phrases.

The following table contains examples of how you can search for a term such as "digital road maps". The search term column in the table shows how you can enter your search term. The procedure column contains a short explanation of how the search is conducted. Some examples use special characters which you can use to refine your search: all of these can be entered using the keyboard.

- Type the words or term you want to find in the entry field.
- Click the "Search" button located next to the entry field or hit the entry key on your keyboard to start the search.

Search term Procedure
digital road maps The system finds pages which contain at least one of the terms "digital", "road" or "maps" regardless of upper or lower case is used.
Digital Road Maps The system finds pages which contain at least one of the terms "Digital", "Road" or "Maps" written in this manner, i.e. starting with capital letters.
+digital +road +maps The system only finds those pages that contain all terms.
"Digital Road Maps" Thy system finds pages on which all words are written in this order and with starting capital letters. By placing the phrase in inverted commas, the phrase functions as a single term - the system searches for this term and displays only those pages which contain it in its entirety.
+"Digital Road Maps" -Germany The system finds pages which contain the phrase "Digital Road Maps" but do not contain the word "Germany".
+Digital +roa* The system finds pages with the word "Digital" and all pages which contain words beginning with "roa". This function is especially useful when you are not fully sure how a particular term is written.

Please note:
- The search function differentiates between terms that are written in upper and lower case. When entering a search term in lower case (e.g. VALVETRONIC), matches found with both cases are displayed. When entering a search term in upper case (e.g. VALVETRONIC), only those matches written entirely in upper case are displayed.
- The use of accents is not taken into account during the search.

Quick search for specialists.

When entering your search terms, you can connect them using the words AND and OR. E.g. you can enter a term such as "digital AND road AND map AND germany".

The following table explains how these operators function. The left-hand column lists the operators you can use, while the right-hand column describes how the system implements them.

Operator Procedure
AND Finds pages which contain all the terms and phrases you have entered: "digital AND road AND maps" finds all pages which contain the words "digital", "road" and "maps".
OR Finds pages which contain at least one of the terms or phrases you have entered: "digital OR road OR maps" displays all pages which contain either the word "digital", "road" or "maps". The pages displayed can contain all terms.

Search for related terms.

You can enter terms containing wildcards when performing a search. You can do this by replacing a single letter with a question mark, ?, or by inserting an asterisk, *, to replace a group of letters. These characters enable you to look for a set of terms or words which match a certain part of the term you have entered. This procedure is especially useful if you are uncertain of how a term or phrase is written.

The following table explains how wildcards function. The left-hand column contains the wildcards you can use; the right-hand column describes how they work.

Search term Procedure
330? The system finds all pages which contain the number "330" or the number "330" followed by a letter.
suspens* The system finds all pages which contain the group of letters "suspens" or "Suspens" followed by two to five other letters.
susp*on The system finds all pages which contain words which begin with the letters "susp" or "Susp" and end with "on" with two to five characters in between.
fa* The system cannot perform a search as the search term is not specific enough. Wildcards can only be used as of the fourth character of a search term.

Please note:
- At least three characters should come before the wildcards ? or * in a search term.
- The wildcards ? and * can only replace letters and not numbers or punctuation.
- The wildcard ? replaces exactly one letter; the wildcard * replaces up to five letters.
- A double asterisk, **, replaces up to fifty letters (e.g. susp**).
