ELECTRIC MOTOR.
The electric motor with up to 40 kW (54 hp) obtains its energy from a lithium-ion high-performance battery of the latest generation. During pure electric driving, in urban traffic for example, it enables some three to four kilometres to be covered entirely free of local emissions, without consuming any fuel and almost silently – at a top speed of up to 60 km/h.
BMW TWIN POWER TURBO STRAIGHT SIX-CYLINDER PETROL ENGINE.
The intelligent combination of BMW TwinPower Turbo straight six-cylinder petrol engine and the space-saving electric motor integrated into the automatic transmission impresses with a noticeable increase in dynamic character and driving pleasure. A combination of the 225 kW (306 hp) combustion engine with the electric motor produces a maximum output of 250 kW (340 hp).
LITHIUM-ION HIGH-PERFORMANCE BATTERY.
The lithium-ion high-performance battery stores the power produced from energy regeneration. Occupying a minimum of space, it supplies the electric motor with maximum output and thus lowers emissions and fuel consumption.
INTELLIGENT POWER ELECTRONICS.
The intelligent power electronics guarantee optimum and efficient interaction between combustion engine and electric motor. Energy recovery, storage and output are optimised and, when used selectively, generate maximum driving pleasure.
FUNCTIONAL LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT CONCEPT.
The BMW ActiveHybrid 3 was devised from the outset with hybrid technology and thus makes no compromises in terms of size and flexibility of the boot: its lithium-ion high-performance battery has been integrated beneath the floor of the luggage compartment with a space-saving and intelligent design.
