Unlimited access to the World Wide Web from the driver’s seat and everywhere else: BMW is the world’s first automobile manufacturer to offer on-board Internet access. You can surf the Web on the Control Display and use the iDrive Controller as an ideal alternative to a computer mouse and all its functions. The data are transmitted with EDGE technology (Enhanced Data Rates for GSM Evolution) which, in contrast to UMTS, can be received everywhere and – what’s even more important – is three to four times faster than the usual GPRS mobile radio standard.
The websites you want to view can be accessed by entering the URL or by selecting a site address from a list of personal favourites. A special BMW server is responsible for making sure that the content you access is transmitted to and can be displayed by your BMW – even in the case of large data volumes. The result is that you can surf in your car just as easily as if you were at home. But with much greater mobility.
