Enhancing your active safety: the electronic cruise control system lets you select any preferred cruising speed above 30 km/h and keeps your BMW steadily at this speed, making it easier to stay below speed limits and leaving you free to concentrate on the pleasure of driving.
Depending on the model of your BMW, the system is operated by an easy-to-use lever mounted on the steering column, or by buttons on the multifunction steering wheel. The system allows you to save a range of different cruise speeds which can be activated at the press of a button, letting you easily adjust your speed to different driving situations and speed limit zones.
Cruise control leaves you free to enjoy the pleasure of driving, without the need to constantly monitor your vehicle's pace. Especially on long journeys, the system also reduces fatigue on the muscles in the leg (particularly the calf muscles) as you are able to rest your foot rather than holding it constantly on the accelerator pedal.
Thanks to the electronic cruise control system, maintaining a steady speed above 30 km/h is effortless. Staying below the speed limit becomes significantly easier, as you no longer need to continually check your speedometer while driving. Once your preferred speed is set, the cruise control system holds it without you needing to keep your foot on the accelerator pedal. If you do accelerate, the system afterwards automatically returns your vehicle to your original cruising speed. Braking deactivates the cruise control.
An electronic control unit saves the speed at which you are travelling at the moment you active the system, and holds it constant by continually comparing this saved speed with the actual vehicle velocity. Variations are corrected by adjusting engine power output. The electronic speedometer manages the control electronics.
