Front camera.
The BMW 1 Series provides discreet support and active assistance to avoid dangerous situations. The front camera monitors conditions and warns the driver of lane changes, when the speed limit is exceeded or there is a risk of a frontal collision. It also contains the high-beam assistant.
The camera positioned at the front of the vehicle assists the Lane Departure Warning system. It monitors the edge of the road and the markings so that even before the vehicle unintentionally leaves its lane, the system issues a warning to the driver by making the steering wheel vibrate. When you turn off or intentionally change lane, this function is deactivated by indicating.
The camera on the interior mirror also keeps track of road signs. In combination with Speed Limit Info, it identifies any speed restrictions and overtaking bans – both on signs at the side of the road and mounted above the carriageway. The information recorded is combined with other data including that from the navigation system, the clock and the rain sensor before the restrictions that actually apply are displayed in the cockpit.
Augmenting these functions is the camera-based collision alert. As soon as the system detects that the distance to the vehicle in front is too close, it warns the driver by means of a display in the cockpit and an acoustic signal.
The high-beam assistant uses sensors to detect light sources in the vicinity and dips the headlights according to traffic conditions. If there is traffic ahead and on the other side of the road and also if the lighting conditions are sufficient, the high beam is switched off again.
