The BMW TwinPower Turbo four-cylinder diesel engine in the BMW 1 Series.
Rapid power build-up, sporting driving dynamics, low consumption. The four-cylinder diesel engines in the BMW 1 Series combine high cost-effectiveness with excellent performance.
The BMW 1 Series makes use of the established diesel power units with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology. This technology package combines common-rail direct injection and a turbocharger with variable turbine geometry. The diesel engines thus offer an unachieved ratio of performance and fuel consumption. As a result, the BMW 120d inspires with 135 kW (184 hp) at a fuel consumption of 4.5 to 4.3 l/100 km while accelerating from 0 to 100km/h in 7.2 s with CO2 emissions of 119 to 114 g/km. The fully aluminium engine block also reduces the weight and allows the 120d power unit to record the best power-to-weight ratio of its class. And the optional BMW BluePerformance technology means BMW 120d already meets EU6 standards that only come into effect in 2014. BMW xDrive, the optionally available intelligent all-wheel-drive, provides increased driving dynamics and optimum traction on all surfaces. The power of the BMW 120d xDrive is distributed variably over all four drive wheels.
The BMW 125d is even sportier with 450 Nm torque: it goes from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.5 seconds – with a low average consumption value of 4.9 l/100 km and CO2 values of 128 g/km. Even more efficient are the engines in the BMW 116d and 118d, with outstanding consumption figures of only 4.4 to 4.1 l/100 km and a CO2 value of 116 to 109 g/km. The BMW 114d is particularly economical and only consumes 4.3 to 4.1 l per 100 km with CO2 emissions from 112 to 109 g/km.
The BMW 116d EfficientDynamics Edition undercuts these values even further and sets new standards in efficiency and performance: the use of innovative EfficientDynamics technologies means the diesel engine only consumes 3.8 litres of fuel per 100 kilometres with CO2 emissions of 99 g/km. (All figures in accordance with EU test cycle, dependent upon the selected tyre format). And every bit as convincing as the consumption and performance are the emission figures. All diesel engines in the BMW 1 Series meet the EU5 standard.
