Thanks to intelligent measures that perceptibly lower fuel consumption and emissions while simultaneously boosting driving performance, the BMW 116d EfficientDynamics Edition is setting new standards in terms of efficiency and power.

The underlying principle is very straightforward: minimise waste, maximise energy use – with Brake Energy Regeneration, for example. Many additional innovative technologies such as the Electric Power Steering and the Auto Start Stop Function come into play as well. Lowering the chassis improves aerodynamics while the 3rd generation of tyres with reduced rolling resistance and elevated pressure create an additional economising effect.

Compared with the "normal" BMW 116d, the displacement of the BMW TwinPower Turbo engine has been reduced from 2.0 to 1.6 litres and combines a further refined version of common-rail direct injection with 2000 bar injection pressure. This intelligent technology package significantly reduces fuel consumption while also producing impressive performance values. As a result, the BMW 116d EfficientDynamics Edition achieves an overall fuel consumption value of 3.8 l/100 km and extremely low CO2 emissions of only 99 g/km.

The higher gear ratio and an optimised Shift Point Display additionally help the driver to adopt an especially economical driving style. For instance, the engine speed at 100 km/h in 6th gear on a country road is a mere 1,600 rpm. With 85 kW (116 hp) the BMW 116d EfficientDynamics Edition accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 10.5 s and reaches a top speed of 190 km/h.
