The hybrid-specific 8-speed automatic transmission in the new BMW ActiveHybrid 3 not only ensures incredibly soft changes and reduces background noise at high speeds, it also noticeably lowers fuel consumption.
Only the rev counter will reveal how swiftly and comfortably the 8-speed automatic transmission changes gear. Thanks to its additional driving levels, the high-tech transmission combines gear-changing comfort and efficiency on a hitherto unknown level. The gear shift itself takes practically without you noticing it at all. At the same time, the drive system, is always held at the performance level that allows it to make optimum use of its strength and efficiency.
The BMW ActiveHybrid 3 has a specific hybrid transmission in which the electric drive is accommodated compactly in the transmission. Known as parallel hybrid architecture, this allows (partial) overlapping of the torques from combustion engine and electric motor – this guides the BMW ActiveHybrid 3 to an impressive maximum system torque of 450 Newton metres.
