Red lights, traffic jams, road works – in everyday driving situations there are countless instances where the engine is idling, unnecessarily burning fuel. The Hybrid Start Stop function of the BMW ActiveHybrid 3 switches off the engine when the car stops, avoiding needless fuel consumption.
Important functions such as climate control are then taken over by the high-performance battery. When the brake is released and accelerator pedal pressed, the vehicle moves on under electrical power. If greater acceleration is desired, the combustion engine is connected again. The results is reduced consumption and fewer emissions.
