Traffic sign recognition.
The front camera on the interior mirror keeps track of traffic signs. In combination with the Navigation system Professional, Speed Limit Info recognises speed restrictions and overtaking bans – both on signs at the side of the road and mounted above the carriageway.
Information recorded by the camera is combined with data from other devices such as the navigation system, clock and rain sensor before any restrictions are depicted – either on the instrument panel or, if requested, on the BMW Head-Up Display. Use of the camera means that additional signs, such as those that apply on wet roads, can also be taken into account.
For the first time BMW ConnectedDrive is supplying a no overtaking display as part of this function for the new BMW ActiveHybrid 3. Any overtaking ban detected or speed limit is depicted on the instrument panel or optionally in the BMW Head-Up Display in the form of a traffic sign until the restrictions is changed or lifted. The system stores all the data temporarily so that when you resume your journey after a short break, the speed and overtaking ban signs that were last valid are immediately displayed again.
