An office wherever you go: the new dictation function from BMW ConnectedDrive allows you to dictate and send e-mail and text messages on the move – and to keep concentrating on the traffic. The innovative continuation of the familiar Text-to-Speech brings a noticeable bonus in infotainment, comfort and safety for the driver.

Using a mobile phone during your journey to respond to incoming e-mail or text message carries a high risk. Yet with the Navigation system Professional, the Bluetooth connection and BMW Assist, you no longer need to pick up your mobile phone. Thanks to the new dictation function in the vehicle and the offboard speech recognition by Nuance®, you can now dictate your written messages and always remain focused on the most important thing of all during the journey: the traffic.

On a server outside of the vehicle, the dictation function converts what you say into a text message that can be sent immediately as an e-mail or SMS. The editing function offers you additional comfort, so that style and grammar don’t get left by the wayside during your journey.

After registering, you can use the dictation function free of charge in your vehicle for a period of 60 days. Continued use requires a contract with Nuance®. The dictation function and the sending of dictated e-mail and text messages depends on your mobile device. You can find a list of compatible devices at: www.bmw.com/bluetooth.

However, transmitting information in the other direction also becomes safer and more convenient: simply have your digital messages read out in the vehicle after you receive them. Then other road users can be sure of one thing: your undivided attention.
