BMW TwinPower Turbo diesel engines.
The BMW TwinPower Turbo diesel engines for the BMW 5 Series Sedan: even more powerful, even quicker off the mark – and even more efficient.
Pure dynamics that make economic sense – that’s what you get from the BMW TwinPower Turbo inline 6-cylinder engines. Their high performance and markedly reduces fuel consumption and emissions is down to an innovative technology package from BMW EfficientDynamics. A combination of the latest generation of common-rail direct injection, multi-stage turbocharging and variable turbine geometry in the BMW 535d produces an impressive 230 kW (313 hp) and a torque of 630 Nm. This allows the inline 6-cylinder to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.3 seconds (xDrive: 5.1 s). Its consumption is a moderate 5.6 to 5.3 l/100 km (6.0 to 5.6 l) of diesel. In the BMW 530d, the engine delivers 190 kW (258 hp) and enables a maximum torque of 560 Nm even from 1,500 rpm. The vehicle confidently accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.8 seconds (xDrive: 5.7 s), while consumption remains at a frugal 5.5 to 5.1 l/100 km (xDrive: 5.8 to 5.4 l).
In the BMW 525d, the engine is an efficient powerhouse: 160 kW (218 hp) accelerates the BMW 5 Series Sedan from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.9 to 7.0 seconds (Steptronic transmission: 6.9 s; xDrive: 7.0 s) – with consumption of just 5.3 to 4.9 l/100 km (Steptronic transmission: 5.0 to 4.7 l; xDrive: 5.4 to 5.1 l) and CO2 emissions from 139 to 129 g/km (Steptronic transmission: 133 to 123 g/km; xDrive: 143 to 133 g/km).
The BMW 520d also guarantees sustainable driving pleasure: its powerful BMW TwinPower Turbo 4-cylinder diesel engine provides 400 Nm of torque at 1,750 to 2,500 rpm. Fuel consumption is an impressively low 4.7 to 4.3 l/100 km (Steptronic transmission: 4.5 to 4.1 l; xDrive: 4.9 to 4.5 l) and CO2 emissions from 124 to 114 g/km (Steptronic transmission: 119 to 109 g/km; xDrive: 129 to 119 g/km). This much efficiency results in combination with the Steptronic transmission in a maximum range of an astounding 1,705 km. BMW 518d, the entry-level engine, is comparable to larger engines in terms of torque and fuel savings: 110 kW (150 hp) enables a sprint of 0 to 100 km/h in 9.5 seconds(Steptronic transmission: 9.4 s). Consumption and emissions are also consequential with 4.7 to 4.3 l/100 km (Steptronic transmission: 4.6 to 4.2 l) and 124 to 114 g CO2/km (Steptronic transmission: 120 to 110 g/km), respectively. Thanks to BMW BluePerformance technology installed as standard, the BMW TwinPower Turbo diesel engines also fulfil the EU6 emission norm.
