BMW TwinPower Turbo petrol engines.
The innovations package of the BMW TwinPower Turbo 8-, 6- and 4-cylinder petrol engines is one of the key elements of the BMW EfficentDynamics strategy: a TwinScroll turbocharger with Valvetronic, double-VANOS and High Precision Injection mean lower fuel consumption and an increase in dynamics.
Ready for top performance: the BMW 5 Series Sedan represents the highest standard in motoring with the BMW TwinPower Turbo 8-cylinder petrol engine in the BMW 550i with two turbochargers, Valvetronic, double-VANOS and petrol direct High Precision Injection. This engine, with its rev range from 2,000 to 4,500 rpm and a satisfying maximum torque of 650 Nm across the speed range accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h with 330 kW (449 hp) in an impressive 4.6 seconds (xDrive: 4.4 s). The engine’s compact build shortens the exhaust paths for extremely direct responsiveness, while double-Vanos optimally distributes the torque over the entire rev range. Efficiency doesn’t come too short either: combined consumption is 8.8 to 8.6 litres per 100 km (xDrive: 9.3 to 9.2 l) with combined CO2 emissions from 206 to 199 g/km (xDrive: 218 to 214 g/km).
In the BMW inline 6-cylinder petrol engine of the BMW 535i the result is 225 kW (306 hp), a powerful 400 Nm across a wide speed range and commendably silky smoothness. This dynamic start make the combined consumption values even more impressive: 8.4 to 8.0 l/100 km (Steptronic transmission: 7.7 to 7.2 l/100 km; xDrive: 8.1 to 7.6 l/100 km) are all it takes to satisfy the BMW 5 Series Sedan. Even the CO2 emissions are moderate: 196 to 186 g/km (Steptronic transmission: 179 to 169 g/km; xDrive: 188 to 178 g/km).
The 4-cylinder petrol engines in the BMW 5 Series Sedan boast high dynamics and low fuel consumption – thanks to BMW TwinPower Turbo technologies. This innovation package from BMW EfficientDynamics uses Valvetronic fully-variable valve control and petrol direct injection to reduce consumption, while TwinScroll turbochargers and the double-VANOS simultaneously increase performance and response. The figures speak for themselves: the engine in the BMW 528i provides a powerful 180 kW (245 hp) and accelerates with 350 Nm from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.2 seconds (xDrive: 6.3 s) – with consumption of 7.0 to 6.6 l/100 km (Steptronic transmission: 6.5 to 6.1 l/100 km; xDrive: 6.8 to 6.4 l/100 km) and CO2 emissions of 164 to 154 g/km (Steptronic transmission: 152 to 142 g/km; xDrive: 159 to 149 g/km). The engine in the BMW 520i also delivers excellent performance: its 135 kW (184 hp) powertrain only used 6.8 to 6.4 litres of fuel per 100 kilometres (Steptronic transmission: 6.4 to 6.0 l/100 km) and reaches 100 km/h from a standing start in just 7.9 seconds.
In addition, all petrol engines for the BMW 5 Series Sedan fulfil the EU6 emission norm as standard.
