Performance hybrid.
The BMW ActiveHybrid 5 represents the next generation performance hybrid with a system output of 250 kW (340 hp) and 450 Nm of torque. Its powerful BMW TwinPower Turbo straight six-cylinder engine combines a TwinScroll turbocharger with Valvetronic, double-VANOS and high-precision injection – for the first time in conjunction with an electric motor.
The BMW TwinPower Turbo engine features a lightweight design. With its TwinScroll turbocharger, it produces a mighty 225 kW (306 HP), resulting in a torque of 400 Nm and a top speed of 250 km/h. The BMW ActiveHybrid 5 accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.9 seconds. And that with impressively low fuel consumption and emission values, ranging from 6.4 to 7.0 l/100 km and 149 to 163 g/km CO2 (all values in accordance with EU test cycle, depending on the tyre format selected).
The second component of the performance hybrid is the 40 kW electric motor. It can drive the car fully electrically up to a maximum speed of 60 km/h. It supports the combustion power train when overtaking, on uphill gradients and in other driving situations where spontaneous acceleration is required. The electric motor is powered by a lithium-ion high-performance battery via the rear axle.
The lithium-ion high-performance battery is characterised by its long life expectancy and is accompanied by a special certificate which offers coverage for the first 100,000 km or maximum five years, whichever comes first.
