BMW TwinPower Turbo diesel engines.
The BMW TwinPower Turbo diesel engines for the BMW 5 Series Touring: even more powerful, even quicker off the mark – and even more efficient.
Pure dynamics that make economic sense – that’s what you get from the BMW TwinPower Turbo inline 6-cylinder engines. Their high performance and markedly reduced fuel consumption and emissions is down to an innovative technology package from BMW EfficientDynamics. A combination of the latest generation of common-rail direct injection, multi-stage turbocharging and variable turbine geometry in the BMW 535d produces an impressive 230 kW (313 hp) and a torque of 630 Nm. This allows the inline 6-cylinder to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.4 seconds (xDrive: 5.3 s). Its consumption is a moderate 5.9 to 5.5 l/100 km (6.2 to 5.9 l) of diesel. In the BMW 530d, the engine delivers 190 kW (258 hp) and enables a maximum torque of 560 Nm even from 1,500 rpm. The vehicle confidently accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds (xDrive: 5.9 s), while consumption remains at a frugal 5.7 to 5.3 l/100 km (xDrive: 6.0 to 5.7 l).
In the BMW 525d, the engine is an efficient powerhouse: 160 kW (218 hp) accelerates the BMW 5 Series Touring from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.2 s (xDrive: 7.3 s) – with consumption of just 5.6 to 5.2 l/100 km (xDrive: 5.8 to 5.4 l) and CO2 emissions from 146 to 136 g/km (xDrive: 152 to 142 g/km).
The BMW 520d also guarantees sustainable driving pleasure: its powerful BMW TwinPower Turbo 4-cylinder diesel engine provides 380 Nm of torque at 1,750 rpm. Fuel consumption is an impressively low 5.3 to 4.9 l/100 km (xDrive: 5.6 to 5.2 l) and CO2 emissions from 139 to 129 g/km (xDrive: 148 to 138 g/km). This much efficiency results in a maximum range of an astounding 1,430 km (xDrive: 1,345 km). BMW 518d, the entry-level engine, is comparable to larger engines in terms of torque and fuel savings: 105 kW (143 hp) enables a sprint of 0 to 100 km/h in 10.1 seconds. Consumption and emissions are also consequential with 5.2 to 4.8 l/100 km and 137 to 127 g CO2/km, respectively. Thanks to BMW BluePerformance technology installed as standard, all BMW TwinPower Turbo diesel engines also fulfil the EU6 emission norm.
