Driver assistance systems.
Driving with instinct: the BMW 6 Series Gran Coupé provides discreet support and active assistance to avoid dangerous situations.
Radars and cameras monitor conditions and warn the driver of lane changes, vehicles coming too close or when the speed limit is exceeded.
At the rear of the vehicle, the Lane Change Warning uses radar sensors to activate a warning symbol on the exterior mirror if there is a vehicle currently in your blind spot or if a vehicle is approaching quickly from the rear. As soon as you use the indicator to change lanes, you are warned in potentially dangerous situations by a flashing LED signal and vibrations.
The camera positioned at the front of the vehicle assists the Lane Departure Warning system. At speeds above 70 km/h, it monitors the edge of the road and the markings so that even before the vehicle unintentionally leaves its lane, the system issues a warning by making the steering wheel vibrate. Switching on the indicators deactivates this function for the time it takes for you to exit the road or change lanes. The built-in collision warning serves as an attentive driving assistant and offers added safety: if a car ahead of you brakes suddenly the system warns you in two phases of a possible collision.
The camera on the interior mirror also keeps track of road signs. Speed Limit Info including overtaking ban identifies any speed restrictions and overtaking bans – both on signs at the side of the road and mounted above the carriageway. Is it raining? Does the speed limit only apply at night? The intelligent driver assistance system checks with the rain sensors and the clock before displaying the actual restrictions − in the cockpit or, if desired, on the BMW Head-Up Display. All these functions are BMW ConnectedDrive technologies.
