The Route-ahead assistant perfectly coordinates the use of combustion engine and electric motor as well as the lithium-ion high-performance battery. To do this, it analyses the route profile stored in the standard-feature Navigation system Professional far in advance. On gradients, this enables all the energy to be summoned from the high-performance battery – hill climbing thus becomes a dynamic experience. During descents, energy is recovered and stored in the high-performance battery.

Energy is systematically stored in order to permit the maximum amount of purely electric and completely emission-free driving in the town or “Home Zone”. On motorways or cross-country journeys, the ECO PRO Mode exploits gentle gradients so that it can be propelled only by its own kinetic energy and thus coast at up to 160 km/h. When the driver’s foot leaves the accelerator, the combustion engine is disengaged and switched off for zero fuel consumption.
