BMW ConnectedDrive Driver Assistance systems in the
BMW M2 Coupé.
In an M automobile, the focus is on one thing: pure driving pleasure. Everything else can be delegated. Intelligent systems such as Driving Assistant and the Lane Departure Warning identify possible risks. With the Navigation system Professional, you can find your way round effortlessly even when you’re not on a race circuit. With its perfect illumination, BMW Selective Beam provides additional safety. And the rear view camera makes parking and manoeuvring even easier.
The Driving Assistant package combines the camera-based systems Lane Departure Warning and approach control and person warning with light city braking function.
The Lane Departure Warning detects lane markings and alerts the driver to an unintentional lane change at speeds above approx. 70 km/h by means of vibrations in the steering wheel. The warning is not activated if the lane change is deliberate, that is, when the indicator has been activated.
Whereas the Approach control warning with light city braking function detects vehicles, the Person warning with light city braking function reacts to pedestrians. If a vehicle ahead brakes suddenly, the BMW responds immediately when the Approach control warning is activated. The system operates in steps. A warning symbol is first displayed, then the symbol begins flashing and an acoustic warning is emitted, and finally the brakes are lightly applied (when travelling at speeds under 60 km/h). The person warning operates at speeds between 10 and 60 km/h and emits a single-level warning in the event of acute danger. If the system warns of a potential collision, the brakes are simultaneously preconditioned for a faster response. In the event of an emergency, the system applies the brakes. This function can be limited by darkness and fog.
BMW Selective Beam.
BMW Selective Beam makes driving at night more comfortable and safer. It provides excellent visibility in the dark without dazzling other drivers. The system detects other road users and selectively excludes them from the high-beam headlight distribution.
Rear view camera.
The Rear view camera allows the driver to view the area behind the car in the Control Display while manoeuvring and parking. The Rear view camera enhances visibility when reversing at speeds below 15 km/h, for example when parking.
The guidelines and coloured obstacle markings that appear in the Control Display show the driver if the selected parking spot is big enough to accommodate the car – which makes parking easier. When the steering wheel is at full lock, the system displays red turning circle lines and green guide lines that adapt to the steering wheel movements.
The Rear view camera is automatically deactivated after ten metres or when the speed exceeds 15 km/h.
