Brake Energy Regeneration.
With Brake Energy Regeneration, part of the energy is captured when the vehicle brakes, converted into electricity and stored in the battery – thus saving fuel.
Today’s modern vehicles need a large amount of electrical energy for their comfort and safety functions. This energy is usually produced by the generator, also known as the alternator, which is driven by the engine via a V-belt. With the aid of an intelligent control unit, it is now possible to switch off the generator, which had previously been in permanent operation while the engine was running, and thus make fuel savings of up to three per cent. With Brake Energy Regeneration, the generator is only active when the driver’s foot leaves the accelerator or presses the brake − in other words, when surplus energy is available from the motion of the vehicle. This braking energy is converted into electricity and stored by the battery. This reduces the strain on the engine and decreases emissions. Fuel consumption savings mean that there is more power available for acceleration.
