With its lightning-speed gear shifts, the BMW X5 M sets sporting standards. The direct, barely interrupted flow of power provides high tractive force and impressive acceleration figures. M gearshift paddles on the steering wheel allow manual intervention in the shifting circuitry at any time. Two settings in the engine and transmission control are available for this purpose. ‘Sport’ mode is designed for maximum dynamics: the vehicle accelerates powerfully accompanied by a sound that produces goosebumps from every throttle command. In contrast, the ‘Efficient’ mode leads to a softer response of the engine and the transmission shifts earlier – for comfortable and relaxed driving with reduced fuel consumption. Both driving modes can be called up via the M Drive button on the steering wheel.
