BMW xDrive.
The intelligent all-wheel drive system BMX xDrive allows you to utilise the power and the driving dynamic potential of your BMW X5 M to the best possible extent. The driving power of 555 hp is distributed flexibly over four wheels for optimum traction and a typical M driving sensation on any surface.
Sensors in the DSC chassis control system detect the first signs of a loss in traction on one or more of the wheels, e.g. on a slippery carriageway. The power distribution is shifted instantly to match the road conditions so that the wheels with the highest traction each receive the optimum driving power. Higher directional stability and safe driving characteristics at all times and in all weather conditions are the result.
Under normal conditions, the BMW xDrive specially tuned to the BMW X5 M distributes the drive power to the front and rear axles in a 40:60 ratio. This conscious focus in design on the rear of the vehicle means that the torque is directed considerably later and more deliberately to the front axle. The result is that the BMW X5 M remains agile and nimble in maintaining close contact with the road – without in any way diminishing that special sensation of the rear-wheel drive.
