Combined with the M xDrive all-wheel drive system with Active M Differential, this high-end convertible is a guarantee of boundless driving dynamics that ultimately embodies the essence of M. At the same time, its aesthetic balance of dynamic contours and powerful proportions produce a captivating design. Expressive design elements such as the continuous black sills and the diffuser with the distinctive twin tailpipes underline the close connections with motor racing – additionally emphasised by the carbon highlights of the optional M Carbon exterior package. The high-performance M TwinPower Turbo 6-cylinder inline petrol engine features superior power delivery and the striking characteristic M engine sound. Two mono-scroll turbochargers, direct High-Precision Injection, fully variable valve control and variable camshaft control ensure outstanding performance.
8-speed M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic.
The 8-speed M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic offers numerous shifting options: extremely dynamic, particularly comfortable and smooth, fuel-saving. You can shift manually using the gear lever or the gearshift paddles on the steering wheel, or select one of three automatic programmes using Drivelogic.
M xDrive.
M xDrive with Active M differential guarantees maximum traction and driving dynamics for everyday driving, as well as at the racetrack. The M specific technology combines the typical agility of a rear-wheel drive with the control of an all-wheel drive. You can choose between the drive variants 4WD, 4WD Sport and – in DSC-off mode – 2WD.
M Carbon ceramic brake.
With the optional M Carbon ceramic brake, the use of braking power is even more direct, it is corrosion-free, even more heat-resistant, greatly reduced in wear and contributes to weight savings, which has a positive effect on agility, dynamics and acceleration. The technical equipment is visible through carbon-ceramic brake discs and calipers in the colour Gold matt with M lettering on the front and rear axle on the outside. Due to specific material properties, increased operating noise may occur during braking, e.g. in case of prolonged, low load or in wet conditions shortly before vehicle standstill. The design-related noise can be avoided by braking the brake dry in case of wetness or loading the brake more heavily after a long low braking load. The influence of wetness and road salt cause brake effectiveness to correspond to that of a conventional brake system. This reduced braking power can be compensated for with a greater pressure on the pedal. The functional noises have no influence on the performance, operational safety and stability of the brake.
M Compound brake.
Thanks to the use of various materials, M Compound brakes achieve outstanding deceleration values, are extremely stable and weigh less. The brake calipers in Blue high-gloss with M lettering lend this high-performance brake system a distinctly sporty appearance.
M Sport exhaust system.
The M Sport exhaust system delivers a dynamic sound that can be modified via the integrated exhaust valve mechanism. The SPORT and SPORT+ programmes, which can be selected via the SETUP button, are accentuated by an even more intense engine sound, while the comfort-oriented programme prioritises more discreet engine acoustics.
Front design.
The front of the BMW M4 Competition Convertible with M xDrive is characterised by its sporty and puristic styling. At the centre is the frameless kidney grille with its bold character in a pared-back and dynamic interpretation including model logo. Inside the kidney grille are typical M double louvres, with their horizontal alignment providing a fascinating contrast to the otherwise vertically aligned grille. Rounding off the progressive appearance of the front are the large central air inlets with their M-typical trapezoid shape and the narrow headlights tapering diagonally towards the kidney grille.
M Carbon bucket seats.
The M Carbon bucket seat with illuminated M4 logo combines the lightness and racing character of a bucket seat with the range of functions of an M Sport seat. Its contouring offers perfect side support and excellent long distance comfort. It is compatible with multipoint harnesses and therefore fully suitable for racing.
Side design.
With the top open, the side view of the BMW M4 Competition Convertible with M xDrive displays a harmonious balance between dynamics and aesthetics. M-specific design elements such as the M gills and the M exterior mirrors impart an exclusive note to the flanks of the vehicle. In contrast, the forged light alloy wheels with M Compound brakes and the black sill inspired by motor sport underline the sporty ambitions of this high-performance convertible.

Softtop.
The anthracite softtop with silver effect blends harmoniously into the dynamic lines of the vehicle. At the push of a button, it opens and closes electrically in approximately 18 seconds, even while driving at speeds of up to 50 km/h. One of the outstanding properties of this high-quality softtop is its excellent noise insulation.
Rear design.
The rear of the BMW M4 Competition Convertible with M xDrive systematically continues the athletically elegant character of the side section. Together with the broad track of the M-specific axles, the muscular wheel arches create a powerful stance and underline the performance promised by this exceptional sports convertible. The discreetly contoured rear spoiler additionally emphasises the extended elegance of the rear. The M Carbon exterior package underlines the athletic demands of the vehicle. Spoiler elements in the front bumper and exterior mirror caps are made of carbon-fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP). The package is rounded off by a striking carbon-fibre diffuser insert at the rear.
M Carbon steering wheel.
The M Carbon steering wheel provides a racing feel. The carbon-fibre trim strips in the spokes surround the operating elements and complement the high-quality feel of the steering wheel. The racing-tested material fits the dynamically designed interior visually, too.

Commanding power, silky-smooth running and a stirring sound are the hallmarks of the M TwinPower Turbo 6-cylinder inline petrol engine from the new generation of the BMW EfficientDynamics engine range. With Double-VANOS, Valvetronic, High-Precision Injection and a TwinScroll turbocharger, it is particularly powerful and efficient.
M sport differential.
The standard M sport differential optimises traction and driving stability when changing lanes or accelerating out of a bend, when taking bends at high speeds or on different road surfaces. Traction is optimised with the help of an electronically operated device that reduces the difference in revolution speed between the rear wheels.
Adaptive M suspension.
The adaptive M suspension electrically adjusts at any time to suit the road and driving situation. You can also adjust the suspension characteristics via the Driving Experience Control to enable your preferred driving style at the time – from comfortable to extremely athletic with markedly agile handling.
Variable sport steering.
The variable sport steering with Servotronic creates a direct and agile steering response and ensures that less physical effort is required to turn the wheel. It reacts to the angle of the steering wheel with varying steering ratios. This improves handling when driving more dynamically and reduces the effort needed to steer when parking and turning.
Steptronic Sports transmission.
The 8-speed Steptronic Sport transmission offers incredibly sporty gear changes. Whether automatic or manual using the selector lever or gearshift paddles – for comfortable coasting or incredibly dynamic driving. In SPORT mode and with the selector lever in the left-hand S/M position, the gear shifts are configured for the maximum performance.
M Sport brake.
The M Sport brake has four-piston fixed callipers at the front and single-piston floating callipers at the rear in blue with the M designation and features large brake discs to ensure an outstanding braking performance.

In this way, values such as boost pressure or tyre pressure and temperatures are always in view, even on the race track. In addition to saving approximately 2 kg in weight, the integrated M specific braking system of the BMW M4 Competition Convertible with M xDrive provides very high braking dynamics. For a maximum level of individualisation, the driver can choose between “Comfort” and “Sport” brake pedal parameters according to the situation. Depending on the parameters, the response behavior is designed differently. In “Sport” mode, deceleration is higher with the same distance of pedal travel particularly at low speeds while the response of the two parameter settings is very similar at high speeds.
BMW Head-Up Display with M specific functions.
The full-colour BMW Head-Up Display with M specific functions* projects information relevant for the journey directly into your field of vision.
