The best dreams are the ones you have with your eyes open – and with your softtop open. As in the BMW M6 Convertible. Where the unmistakable hallmark BMW M GmbH qualities combine to create the perfect symbiosis of breathtaking performance and cultivated convertible. Within just 19 seconds, the softtop lowers to unveil a made-to-measure cockpit containing the most distinguished materials from the BMW Individual Collection. With its full-bodied sound, the 560 hp M TwinPower Turbo 8-cylinder petrol engine stirs into action. A supreme powerplant that can reach 100 km/h from a standing start in 4.3 seconds. To ensure that it transfers its power to the road with the utmost precision, the BMW M6 Convertible is equipped with Active M Differential, speed-related M Servotronic steering and the M double clutch transmission with Drivelogic for maximum agility. And thanks to the optional M carbon ceramic brake, the BMW M6 Convertible comes to a standstill almost instantaneously. Which is then exactly the right moment to sit back and properly take in the powerful, contoured exterior design of this convertible.

Considering how good it looks, it's almost a shame the BMW M6 Convertible usually disappears from view again so quickly. After all, whether open or closed: With its powerful lines and especially in the optional BMW Individual paint finish Frozen Blue metallic, the BMW M6 Convertible is a genuine eye-catcher. Design and performance form a perfect symbiosis. Just how perfectly can be seen in the aerodynamically optimised front apron, whose generous inlets supply the V8 engine with plenty of air to breathe at all times. Painstaking attention has been paid even to the smallest details. For example, in the way the high-gloss Black double slats of the kidney grille border the M emblem. Or how the striking M gills with integrated turn indicators add a distinctive touch of style just behind the front wheel arches. An elegant interplay of form and function is also evident in the rear apron. This encloses the typical M twin tailpipes − as well as the diffuser to create the necessary downforce − in such a way that the harmonious line of the BMW M6 Convertible is sustained. Whether with a closed softtop or under an open sky.

The interior of the BMW M6 Convertible is made to measure and its carefully conceived architecture speaks for itself. The cockpit surrounds the driver as a single entity, featuring distinguished optional materials from the BMW Individual Collection. Every control is to be found precisely where it is needed. It has never been this easy to feel at home in a sports car. The functional centre point is the M leather steering wheel and, just a finger's width away from its easy-grip thumb cavity, are the shift paddles of the M double-clutch transmission with Drivelogic as well as the M Drive buttons. M specific instruments reliably display all relevant information even in bright light, ensuring the driver has a constant eye on everything. The perfect combination of performance and pure open-top pleasure − best enjoyed on the ergonomic M seats with optional upholstery in exclusive fine-grain leather Opal White and surrounded by exclusive interior trims in Ash Grain White.

The fully automatic sofftop provides outstanding acoustic and thermal insulation. When closed, it lends the convertible a coupé-like silhouette. The rear window can be electrically lowered to allow refreshing air circulation in the interior without drafts, and it can be heated. Along with Anthracite silver effect, the softtop is available in two other colours. It opens in just 19 seconds and closes in 24 seconds at speeds of up to 40 km/h. Even when it is closed, convertible passengers can still have an open-feel driving experience: All five windows can be lowered at the same time while the softtop remains closed, to protect against direct sunlight, for example.

The Active M Differential variably distributes the drive torque between the two rear wheels to optimise traction and driving stability during dynamic lane changing or accelerating out of curves, when making curves at high speeds or on roads with uneven surfaces, including on snow, gravel and ice. It even provides precise handling during extreme lateral acceleration. The constant, smooth adjustment of the differential lock harmonises the vehicle's driving performance, improving control in extreme driving situations. Traction is optimised with the help of an electronically operated device that reduces the difference in revolution speed between the rear wheels. The system, which was developed for motor sports, is connected to the Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) via an electronic control unit. It proactively provides the perfect use of locking action between 0 and 100 percent, neutralising even the finest differences in torque between the rear wheels – without the tendency to understeer. The Active M Differential provides optimal grip as well as great directional stability and perfect handling, and it converts virtually all of the engine's drive power into acceleration.

The M Carbon ceramic brake* is a result of the transfer of technologies from the motor sport industry. The application of an innovative carbon fibre compound ceramic makes the braking power even more direct and improves brake-fade stabilisation. It is also non-corrosive, very resistant to abrasion, tolerates more heat and contributes to a lower vehicle weight. Its lightweight construction reduces rotating and unsprung mass, improving acceleration, responsiveness and overall handling, but also increasing the driving dynamics and traction, improving suspension comfort and reducing fuel consumption. With its unusually large brake discs (front 410 mm, rear 396 mm), six-piston fixed callipers at the front and one-piston floating callipers at the rear, the M Carbon ceramic brake is fit for the race track thanks to its very high heat resistance even over long periods of use. At the same time a perforated and ventilated brake disc ring guarantees more powerful heat dissipation. The M Carbon ceramic brake is easy to recognise, thanks to its matt Gold-coloured brake callipers featuring the classic M designation.

* The impact of moisture and road salt can cause the braking action to be equivalent to a conventional brake system. This can for a short time be experienced as a reduction in braking action and can be balanced out by greater pressure on the pedal where necessary.

The M double-clutch transmission with Drivelogic is an innovative double-clutch transmission specially designed for the BMW M high-revving engines. It comes with traction-optimised automatic gear selection, Launch Control, Low Speed Assistance, as well as the Automatic Start/Stop function. It can be controlled either automatically or manually using the gearshift paddles on the M leather steering wheel or the gear selector in the centre console. The M double-clutch transmission makes it possible to change gears extremely quickly without an interruption in tractive force. This is due to two subtransmissions, each with its own clutch, which continuously relay the power of the engine to the wheels by overlapping the clutches. The gear shift strategy is also optimised with the help of existing navigation data – the M double-clutch transmission, for example, downshifts proactively ahead of bends. The additional Launch Control function, which allows maximum acceleration from a standing start, offers an extremely dynamic driving experience: shifting gears at high speed is possible without using the clutch, and without any interruption in the power delivery. Regardless of whether the driver selects the automatic ("D" mode) or manual ("S" mode) mode, Drivelogic always offers three shifting options: extremely sporty, comfortable and efficient.

The aesthetics of individualism can be so refreshing. Take, for instance, the BMW M6 Convertible in the vibrant BMW Individual paint finish Frozen Blue metallic. This colour, with its contemporary matt look, boldly accentuates the car’s distinctive lines and athletic appearance. Other BMW Individual paint finishes also, of course, have their own special character: from exuberant to modern and through to elegant. Another fine example is Citrine Black metallic. As the light falls on this surface, fine flecks of gold appear to shimmer beneath a deep, dark olive black. Whatever choice you make from the twelve BMW Individual paint finishes, you can be sure of one thing – it will be a shining example of your own personal style.

Probably the best place under the sun for personal expression. The BMW M6 Convertible, in harmony with exclusive equipment from BMW Individual, is always open to ideas when it comes to your own distinctive style. The BMW individual full-leather trim ‘Merino‘ in radiant Opal White, shown here, epitomises pure style. And when paired with the graphic visual effect of the fine-wood trim in Ash Grain White, the result is perfect harmony and a luxurious appearance that one would associate with a modern yacht. A very special touch of colour: the impressive, hand-crafted contrasting stitching. BMW Individual also offers other nuances of leather colours, so you can create any look you desire. They range from Platinum to Champagne to Cohiba Brown, each with natural, open-pored surfaces for a unique feeling of luxury. This feeling can be even further enhanced when you opt for the BMW Individual roofliner in Alcantara – perfectly rounding off the interior and ensuring the utmost in exclusive high quality.

An unadulterated racing feel: the M Competition package delivers enhanced engine output, more direct steering and a specially tuned suspension to ensure the BMW M6 brings an even higher level of performance to the road.

The output of the M TwinPower Turbo 8-cylinder petrol engine has been increased from 412 kW to 441 kW. This enhanced performance is achieved by raising the boost pressure in the upper range of revs. The M sports exhaust system generates a particularly dynamic engine sound that is destined to thrill. On the racetrack and in everyday use, the specially tuned suspension and extremely dynamic direct steering ensure that every steering command is executed with maximum precision. The exclusive 20" M light alloy wheels Double-spoke style 601 M in Bicolour look with mixed tyres are extremely impressive, along with the Black Chrome-plated twin tailpipes of the M sports exhaust system.
