In 2009, with the BMW Vision Efficient Dynamics, BMW exhibited an overall concept for saving energy for the first time. Body and drive system were specially developed from energy-saving aspects. The concept became a technology base for many further developments by BMW.

It was the next level of evolution for the BMW Vision EfficientDynamic: the BMW i8 Concept. In 2011, it combined the impressive performance of a sports car with a high degree of efficiency.

The values of fuel consumptions, CO2 emissions and energy consumptions shown were determined according to the European Regulation (EC) 715/2007 in the version applicable at the time of type approval. The figures refer to a vehicle with basic configuration in Germany and the range shown considers optional equipment and the different size of wheels and tires available on the selected model.
