GAME CHANGER

2 min reading time

A podcast about people who make things happen.

Every major innovation starts with someone leaving familiar terrain and stepping over the boundary into something new. People who take this step are GAME CHANGERS, who also change the world a little. This podcast introduces a few of the pioneers who are making a mark on the world.

We owe progress in our world to innovative minds: the people who create things that many cannot even imagine; the pioneers who fail hundreds of times yet still dare to try again; those who simply do not give up and are ready to leave their comfort zone. What was their inspiration? How did it all start? What is it like to fundamentally change something? How does it feel to be the first?

Together with our moderator Charlie Martin, we get to know a few of these GAME CHANGERS in this podcast. It is about groundbreaking projects, new ideas and inventions that change our view on the world and open up new horizons.

GAME CHANGER #01 | David Zilber: Changing Food, Changing the Game

Welcome to the first episode of the new BMW audio series, GAME CHANGER. In this episode, we explore significant changes starting with the smallest possible microorganisms. What if you knew that the next big culinary breakthrough might come from a tiny microbe living in the food you eat every day?

This episode’s GAME CHANGER is David Zilber. He is a professional chef, fermenter, food scientist, and author from Toronto, Canada. Since 2004, he has worked in some of the world’s top kitchens, most notably as the director of the world-renowned Fermentation Lab at Restaurant Noma, where he used fungi and bacteria to transform foodstuffs into bold new ingredients.

David Zilber shares his dreams and plans in a warm and inspiring conversation with our host, Charlie Martin, and talks about the strangest food he’s ever tasted. Tune in to this episode to discover how a lab next to a kitchen could bring about the next big culinary change.

GAME CHANGER #02 | DR STELLA CLARKE: CHANGING COLOURS, CHANGING THE GAME

Have you ever had that one idea that made you think, "This is it"?  With millions of ideas emerging daily, only a rare few see the light of day. But what transforms a spark of inspiration into reality? What does the creative process truly look like? How do you pitch an idea so compellingly that it demands to be heard?

This episode’s GAME CHANGER is Dr Stella Clarke. With a background in mechanical engineering from Australia, the USA, and Munich, Clarke has been a development engineer at BMW since 2007. It was her vision to apply E Ink technology – familiar from e-readers – to revolutionise how vehicles can change their colour. In 2022, the BMW iX Flow, the world’s first colour-changing car, captured global attention. Like every groundbreaking innovation, it all started with an idea.

Explore how Dr Clarke transformed her groundbreaking idea into a reality. With a blend of deep engineering expertise and visionary thinking, she is pioneering a new frontier in the future of mobility.
