BMW NEXT 100.Designing tomorrow’s mobility today.

To mark its 100th birthday, BMW is looking back on a success story – and at the same time is designing a vision of the future: the BMW VISION NEXT 100. In 2016, the visionary vehicle travelled around he world – as part of the BMW Group future exhibition “Iconic Impulses”. On its way from Munich via Beijing and London to Los Angeles, every stage of the exhibition represented new aspects of the BMW Group future visions and urban mobility.

I am convinced that individual mobility is once again entering an exciting phase! For the BMW Group this phase starts today: THE NEXT 100 YEARS!
Harald Krüger, Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW AG

THE BMW VISION NEXT 100.
SHEER DRIVING PLEASURE – REVISITED.

The visionary vehicle from BMW stands for the sheer driving pleasure typical of BMW. And it provides spectacular insights into its future. The starting point for the design process was the interior – as the drivers’ well-being will become increasingly important in the future. They should have the feeling of sitting in a machine conceived for them personally. This is why the cabin dimensions appear particularly generous compared to the overall size of the vehicle. Optically, it has the sporty contours and the typical silhouette of a BMW saloon – despite its dome-shaped interior. In producing the BMW VISION NEXT, preference was given to the use of recycled materials or renewable resources. All visible and invisible carbon parts consist of surplus material from the normal carbon production process.

The mobility of the future will re-establish connections between all areas of life. We see new opportunities here for premium mobility.
Harald Krüger, Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW AG

THE VISION:
THE FOCUS ON THE DRIVER.

In future there will be one focus only: the driver. The BMW VISION NEXT 100 adapts automatically to the aspirations and expectations of the respective owner. You and car therefore become a unit. Permanent connectivity, digital intelligence and state-of-the-art technologies are a great support in accomplishing this. And, on top of it all, this technological progress brings perfection to the owners – making them the ultimate drivers. Yet the BMW VISION NEXT 100 not only assists driving but also enables drivers to take their eyes off the road as well – thanks to autonomous driving. The car takes over, while you are able to concentrate on other things.

The "Making of".

BMW VISION NEXT 100 – a vision becomes reality

What will also persist in the future is that cars should have an emotional design and offer very emotional driving experiences.
Adrian van Hooydonk, Senior Vice President BMW Group Design

THE FUTURE PAYS A VISIT:

ICONIC IMPULSES WORLD TOUR.

Munich.

“The constant process of searching for a better solution is in our genes.” These are the words that Harald Krüger, Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW AG, used on 7 March to open the exhibition “Iconic Impulses. The BMW Group Future Experience.”. The launch event showed a multimedia-based, compelling presentation that guided them through the most significant moments of the company history and the premium mobility of tomorrow. Its climax: the presentation of the BMW VISION NEXT 100.

London.

A visit to the Roundhouse concert and culture centre in the heart of London: the second port of call for the “Iconic Impulses” event platform with interactive exhibits and exciting discussions panels on key issues of the future was also the premiere stage for two further visions of the BMW Group: the MINI VISION NEXT 100 and the Rolls-Royce VISION NEXT 100.

Beijing.

On 6 May in “Ullens Center for Contemporary Art” Harald Krüger, Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW, and Adrian van Hooydonk, Senior Vice President BMW Group Design, presented the vision vehicle to the Chinese public for the first time. “This is the beginning of a new exciting era – and one in which China will play a decisive role,” said Krüger, underlining the importance of the tour’s stop in Beijing.

Los Angeles.

Showdown in California: On 11 October “Iconic Impulses. The BMW Group Future Experience.” made a guest appearance in Los Angeles. BMW took this opportunity to present the future of premium mobility on two wheels: the BMW Motorrad VISION NEXT 100. The motorcycle of the future completes the picture of a premium level of sustainable mobility and represents a new understanding of motorcycling in a connected world.

BMW COLLECTIVE MEMORY.

We brought in the BMW models from the streets of this world and together created the largest ever picture collection. Everybody had the chance to send in their own BMW and thus become part of this activity.

BMW FESTIVAL NIGHT.

Back in Munich, the BMW VISION NEXT 100 then also appeared before the general public in the Olympic Park. One very special highlight was the BMW Festival Night – which provided the exciting and entertaining worlds of adventure concerning the past, present and future of the BMW brand and its vehicles.

BACK AT HOME.
THE BMW VISION NEXT 100 IN THE MUSEUM.

A glorious automotive moment in the BMW Museum in Munich: as part of its world tour, the BMW VISION NEXT 100 returned to Munich in September. Inside the double cone of BMW Welt, the BMW Group future exhibition inspired with the groundbreaking and forward-looking vehicle BMW VISION NEXT 100 and four interactive brand worlds. Also awaiting visitors to the BMW Museum were 100 masterpieces from 100 years of BMW. In the evening, the BMW Festival Night staged the success story of the BMW brand through its various epochs and ushered in the next century.
